Heartland Tech Groups launches peer group program
9 February, 2009
By Liam Lahey
Heartland Tech Groups (HTG), a provider of peer group programs for the IT solution provider industry, announced the launch of its HTG 2.0 program.
HTG 2.0 is "an increased connectedness between all participating members and vendor sponsors," explained Stuart Crawford, vice president, business development, BulletProof InfoTech and a HTG board member. "(The event aimed to) discover how to help our vendors do business with the channel more effectively and what can partners get from vendors that normally we wouldn't see through other communication methods or at other trade shows. It's more one-on-one action with vendors and partners."
"Our members and leadership team have brought HTG to a new level in terms of value, execution and opportunity. The peer group model helps our members deal with challenging economic times. Our recent meeting (in Dallas) produced a number of firsts that we can build on going forward into 2009," said Arlin Sorensen, founder of HTG.
Crawford said channel partners should be building strong relationships at a very high level, particularly now, given the state of the economy.
"Figure out what your core strength is and in a nutshell, get back to basics. All the things you did five years ago that worked and then we tried to get complicated when the boom years were here. We definitely need to get back to basics on how we do business and that's what HTG offers to its membership companies," he said. "Don't try to be the single point for everything . . . focus on your strengths."
Among HTG's accomplishments during its recent event in Texas, the rendezvous marked the first time all the U.S.-based groups met simultaneously and that all the sponsors met with the membership in one venue.
For the attendees, there were face-to-face meetings for HTG leadership team, board of directors and facilitator training and among Platinum and Gold vendor sponsors to discuss partner programs; the HTG Platinum Vendor Advisory Council, and a first look at new HTG SharePoint portal scheduled for release on March 1st.
"The fundamental message from HTG is it's all about execution and accountability," Crawford added. "Get back to having a plan, executing on it, and having others to hold you accountable to it."
Heartland Tech Groups were founded by Arlin Sorensen in 2001 to bring Iowa-based IT partners together to leverage each other's talents following the post-dot com downturn. Over the years, HTG has grown from a purchasing group to a serious group of business owners, sales professionals, marketing managers and senior management of IT firms in non-competing geographies who meet for two days each quarter to work on key businesses issues and opportunities for growth.
As mentioned by Crawford, HTG member firms focus on execution and holding other members accountable for business commitments and achieving goals.
