10/31/07 - DCS Netlink wins Synergy Award
The 2007 SYNERGY “Success in Collaboration” was presented to….DCS Netlink…
during the opening day of the Conference in Eau Claire.
The Altoona Police Department partnered with DCS Netlink, Inc. to research and develop
technology applications, to enhance safety and functionality within law enforcement, unavailable in the current market, This partnership of a local government agency, with practical knowledge of needed improvements, and a business/technology solutions provider, with Network and Information Technology expertise; was able to facilitate the development of a fully functional wireless, web-enabled application with broadband capabilities similar to that of a wired network, yet unavailable for law enforcement applications at the time. This mobile data solution is also equipped with a Watch Guard Virtual Private Network (VPN) with dual benefits by securely connecting the squad cars on the road, and also using the protection of a firewall for internal network users at the headquarters; providing the most enhanced security and monitoring capabilities for the sensitive law enforcement information being exchanged over squad car computers. In researching and developing its wireless network solution with DCS Netlink, the Altoona Police Department continued to focus on safety and efficiency.
This collaboration with new knowledge and ideas being researched and developed among a local government entity and a business solutions partner, was able to provide a more cost effective and efficient squad Car computer system; a complete "mobile office" for field officers and investigators. This mobile data solution utilizes cellular data connections to remotely access a Citrix server at headquarters, with full Internet capabilities; as well as the same applications available from a desktop PC at headquarters, including full Record Management System (RMS) functionality without additional software and hardware requirements. In partnership, between DCS Netlink and the Altoona Police Department, a mobile data solution was developed as a system that would benefit small and medium sized law enforcement agencies with low infrastructure costs, real-time access to data, and future abilities to bring even more services to the squad car. It has become the backbone required for additional research and development, including a Law enforcement Officer's Wireless Personal Area Network
(WPAN) with "Real-time" live Video and Audio Project; currently underway; to be fully
developed with additional funding. Through the research and development of this, costeffective wireless mobile data solution, protected by a VPN, the Altoona Police Department and DCS Netlink accomplished two of the most important goals in law enforcement technology for any size agency - safety and efficiency.
Dane Deutsch, DCS Netlink accepted the award.
